The Lockers:
This space is well lit from above however, the lockers at a lower level still appear rather dim. In addition to the lack of physical space to easy turn around and move dynamically or functionally, the client may feel as though there is only one way out of the confined space with the lockers arranged in rows. The fear of being unable to get out or escape if needs be may be heightened by other people being present within the enclosed space. |
The Revolving Door:
Out of the three spaces analysed, the revolving door is the smallest and most confined. Therefore would evoke a sense of fear and induce anxiety associated with claustrophobia. Despite the revolving door being manufactured from glass, in many ways this could potentially distort the senses to a greater extent as the individual is able to see the external environment but is not able to escape towards it. |
The Lift:
Despite being the largest space to be analysed as part of our research, when filled with people or when empty- this space could potentially trigger the feeling of fear in the client. When full. the lift will produce a sense/ awareness of personal space and lack of. As the feeling of panic develops within the individual, senses such as sight and sound may become distorted and become overwhelming. During the time within the elevator, the user is trapped within a space confined by 4 walls with no means of escape. Anxiety may be heightened by the fear of the lift malfunctioning and the sufferer being trapped in a small area. |
